As the saying goes, “one rain, one degree,” and every time it rains at this time of year, the temperature drops, and suddenly and surely we can feel the arrival of fall.

In a suburb of Tokyo where I live, there is not much precipitation in November, but I have vivid memories of late autumn rain. This may be due to my annual pattern of rushing to get the heater out of the back of the closet when it gets cold.

There is another thing I associate with November rain. It is “November Rain,” a famous ballad by my favorite hard rock band, GUNS N' ROSES.
I was captivated by Axl Rose's passionate singing at the piano and Slash's holding his Les Paul lower than his waist at the Tokyo Dome concert in 1992, which I saw in real time.

As you can see, all of these photos were taken in the rain.
Until I started writing this article, I was hoping to give you some tips for shooting in the rain, but other than holding an umbrella in one hand, I just shot as usual. The small size and light weight of the GR make this technique possible. It might not be possible with other cameras.

If I had to give you a few tips for capturing puddle reflections like the photo above:
- Hold the camera just above the water (be very careful not to dip the side of the camera into the water)
- I would recommend setting the focus to Snap 3.5m or 5m (AF may focus on the ground)
